It was the end of the TGIF concert series in Carlsbad at Calavera Hills Park. The closing band was Coco Montoya and crew. Also to appear was Scott Blinn of the Mississippi Muddsharks. Coco put on a high energy set which brought a thick crowd to the front in a mesmerized state. After intermission, the second set started off with the band jamming away and out came Scotty as a bonus. Now I haven’t seen scott play in in a long while but he’s just a monster on stage. I was by the main left speaker when he came out and the hairs on my neck stood up as he pounded out an intro E chord. The two of them were unstoppable and threw the crowd into a frenzy
Photo tip: As we saw with the last post, an extra light to the side can add some depth and character. This time I kicked it up a notch ala Cool Cake by setting up 2 strobes run by Nikon’s CLS using camera as the master. For ambiance I gelled the front one orange (yes I said orange) and the other one pointed to the back-blue. I also had a strobe on my camera for a little fill and whatever I wanted to isolate in the crowd. I think for a first attempt it turned out well.
